I’m not sure why this is happening, but the powers that be, are probably trying to send me a message. I’m not all that religious, yet the last few books I’ve read have really touched on Faith and Belief.
This book paints a somewhat depressing view of violence in our society and how we are fighting a losing battle against it. The manner in which we interact with others has degenerated over the last few decades and has led to us not caring about anything but ourselves. This has produced a downward spiral of morality–and provides opportunity for those with real evil in their hearts to thrive. The good in ourselves is sometimes no longer enough for us to survive in this changing world.
The book is gory, which is down my alley, but it still does lead you down the path of introspection for sure.
Hair of Bat and Oil of Cloves.
Dentistry October 29th, 2006
So a young woman came for a consult last week. The old filling on this tooth had fractured a couple of months ago and her dentist built the tooth back up. Shortly after she started noticing bite and thermal sensitivity. A few weeks of that and she was sent here.
That’s the tooth as I saw it at the consult. The xray showed a moderately deep filling and no apical pathosis. After some discussion I decided to try an IRM temp in the tooth to see if we could reverse the pulpitis. The existing filling is obviously deficient so I figured that based on the quality of the existing work, we might be dealing with a reversible pulpitis.
Removal of most of the resin showed a ton of caries that were left behind before.
That’s after caries excavation and placement of some Dycal.
So far the patient has been feeling good on the tooth. I’ll give her another week or so to make sure. What to do after that though? Do I send her back to her dentist for another resin that might look like the last one did? Even if I do the resin myself (I don’t have any unexpired composite resin in the office), she still needs a dentist for her other stuff. And her Mom is this dentist’s receptionist…
Oh well. At least we’ve avoided a root canal for now. Hopefully.

Just took the following quiz and Costa Rica was recommended. Funny enough, that’s where we have tickets for later this year.

My Old Research.

More stuff from the back of the drawer. This drawer is like a Mary Poppins bag. It is endlessly deep.
I found some old SEM photos of my research when I was in my Endo programme. The research had to do with how different intracanal medicaments might affect the bond strength of glass ionomer to dentin. I experimented on bovine dentin and the results turned out to not be all that exciting (neither was the experimental process).
Indirectly, however, I ended up meeting The Girl because of the research. She was doing her own research on the same floor of the building and I met her through a colleague of mine. Maybe I’ll tell that story one day.
