He/she is a 6 month old green-wing macaw. This is his first day here and he’s a little stressed from the work-over the vet did on him. Green Wings are the second largest macaws in the macaw family. At 6 months he’s already longer than Sundance. Because of how young and active he is though, his feathers look pretty beaten up.

We’re calling him Tango for now. The results from the DNA sexing should be back in about a week so we’ll know whether or not he really is a boy.

He’ll be quarantined away from the other birds for the next few weeks.

    Congratulations on your new addition.
    He/She is gorgeous!

So far he’s very mild mannered but that could be because he’s shy in his new surroundings. He’s already talking almost as much as Sundance. Sundance didn’t start trying to speak until he was 1 or 1 1/2.

Seems like the bigger the breed of macaw, the more self-confidence they have and the less behavioural issues we see.

say hi to the newest edition to the family for me!

i like the name tango – it’s jazzy and colorful. maybe mango if it’s a girl.

i’m also partial to the names max and fiona.

I bet the name Tango is a very common name for scarlet and green wing macaws.

The Tango dance is usually characterised with red clothes or accents.

Speaking of Fiona, is this name gaining popularity? My cousin’s 7 month old is named Fiona. Besides the recent hollywood mentions, I don’t know anyone else with the name.
