I’m Not a Hunter.

Cowland January 1st, 2008

We’ve been leaving food out for the deer around our place, but with all the rain and snow, the bucket that the food is in has been collecting water. Thanks to a suggestion from ReceptionChick, we ended up getting one of these:
We spent an extra $10 to get the “quiet” model because I thought it would be less scary for the deer when it activates. As I read the instructions while putting the system together I realised that the “quiet” model is quiet so that when you’re out hunting deer and you hang the feeder up, other hunters won’t hear it when it activates.

We don’t hunt deer.

And nobody else hunts on our property.

Oh well.

im very proud of u my friend! as far as im concerned, hunting should be forbidden anywhere in the world and should be punishable by imprisonment!

people here in Switzerland do hunt, only during specifically appointed times (or seasons as they call them) in the fall, my boss is quite the hunter himself.

i have to admit, i’ve indulged in eating the meat, but i still stand strong against hunting! if they didn’t do it and they didn’t serve it in the restaurants, people wouldn’t eat it, right!

    anyways, good for yous!

Hmm. So getting your meat from a supermarket or a butcher is better then?

dont really understand what u mean here, if you mean that the meat from the butcher’s comes from some poor animal which had to be slain, then, no, buying ur meat from the store is not any better.

however, we, humans, are carnivors and our bodies are built to bite off, chew and process meat. our higher brains and consciousnesses (sp?) though, sometimes make us feel guilty for having to kill animals because technically we dont “need” meat to survive. look at vegetarians or vegans.

i think it’s all a matter of personal opinion, views and attitides. i buy meat from the store, i eat meat, and i don’t feel bad about it. just during hunting season, when i think a bit more about how my meat got to my table, is when i feel slightly guilty. however, I, personally, could never and would never kill an animal.

well, you can question me here again and say, what if im stuck on a deserted island with no food and im dying and that was the only way to survive? yeah, i’ll do it.

Our painter is vegetarian and once said that if you eat meat, you should be ok eating any kind of meat (dog, cat, etc). Makes sense.

What makes sense to me also is that if you eat meat, you should be comfortable either killing for the meat or having the animal killed for the meat. Hunting without plans to use the meat doesn’t make sense to me. Nor does it make sense to go to the supermarket and pick up a pork roast and block the thought that the meat came from a live animal that was killed to provide for you.

Hunting often is a more humane way to process meat than through abattoirs.

Life manifests in many unique ways on our planet. All of its forms are precious and many circles and cycles are contained within these forms…the circle of life through reproduction, through nourishment, and possibly through reincarnation and enlightenment.

I think I’ll go watch the Lion King now.

i totally agree with you! but unfortunately i’m not a perfect human being in utter balance with my universe, as i’d like to be. so i go and buy my pork roast in the supermarket and block the thought of how it got there, while at the same time i condemn hunting for whatever reason (recreation or dinner) and eat horse, but would not touch dog or cat! go figure!

i think i need a trip to Tibet to spend some time meditating with the monks. but i’m afraid i’ll never come back!
