A Sexy Root Canal?

Morphology January 30th, 2008

Again, there’s nothing outstanding about this case, but as I looked at the final film, I couldn’t stop looking. The fill density, gentle curvatures in the mesial canals, coalescence of those canals, and the apical canal split in the distal root left me thinking that the endo looks kind of…well…sexy.

I remember our department head once talking about a sexy endo. I also remember thinking how cuckoo that sounded.

Oh well, I guess this is what dentistry does to you eventually.

in a somewhat related note, someone in my class called endodontics ‘micro-wanking’.

I use rotaries for the majority of instrumentation, so I consider it micro-screwing…

Oh my God! Is that what my tooth is going to look like tomorrow morning? I already start fearfully shaking…

What is that black area between the filling and the Gutta-Percha?

  • http://www.endodontics.ca Periapex

The filling on the biting surface is a temporary material. The black area is a cotton pellet that is removed with the temp prior to the permanent filling work on the tooth.

Endodontists usually refer patients back to their regular dentists for the restorative work.

    Oh, I see.

I actually have just come back from the dentist office. He used that little camera to look at my tooth in inside it closer; the screen that projected the picture was right above in front of me, so I could see everything. It was so frightening! I never thought that the hole that’s drilled is so large! It was almost as large as the tooth itself, as much as it seemed to me. Ugh…

He’s going to see me back in two weeks.

He also said that the infection area has grown big and so it’ll be another two or so days that I feel some pain when pushing on the tooth. He told me to continue take that antibiotic. Would you say everything should be fine?

Sounds like things should go in the right direction.
