A Farewell Post.

OfficeMom, AssistantGirl, Calculus, ReceptionChick (not in picture)

My office manager (woman on the left) has worked with me for the last 8.5 years. We’ve worked together in different offices and have had our differences — some of them quite major. Like AssistantGirl (the one in black), she was a dental “refugee” and had escaped a crappy work environment run by an ego-maniacal dentist where the bottom line was the single most important priority.

Through the last few years we’ve taught each other much about the practice of dentistry, the art of patient interaction, and tolerance. She has helped me to build 2 practices over those 8 years.

If you believe that there’s no such thing as a “coincidence” and that all events occur for a reason, you would have proof if you were to delve into the history between us.

It’s been a rough road but it has been a straight road.

I wish OfficeMom and her husband all the best with her growing family, her move away from the area, and her future endeavors. I know that our paths will intersect often in life and the black magic of facebook will facilitate that.

Introduce them to Twitter… then you won’t really feel that far apart.

It’s hard to lose not only a good employee but a good friend. Good luck to her and good luck finding another OM!

Rudy: Good idea! Although I’m thinking that Twitter might overwhelm them like it did to Laney.

Teresa: I’ll pass on your positive thoughts to her. I don’t know how so many offices are able to deal with high staff turn-over. That sort of thing would stress me out worse than anything during my regular work day. It’s hard to find qualified people who share a similar work ethic.

sounds like your office is a family. Best wishes for both you and your former office manager.

I have found some of my best friends are the ones who are willing to stand up to me, rather than just “yes” me!

I tell people that work is my home away from home. I do feel like the people I work with are family.

Periapex, having worked with my DDS boss for what will be 15 years on July 22nd of this year, I understand how a friendship and bond is created over a period of time. It speaks well of you and your office that she has been with you for 8.5 years. My boss and I have our moments on occasion, some of them quite heated, but all in all we get along like best buddies.

Time flies though. I bet those 15 years just seem like 5.
