After years of little niggly problems costing tons of money to fix and then recurring, I finally had enough. From getting rear-ended the second day after I got the car, to having my emblems stolen, to parts wearing out excessively fast (and only being able to purchase them from a dealership), I said, “enough”.

The recession makes buying something like a new car quite a dream. I chose a sage green 2009 Subaru Forester, traded in the jalopy, switched plates, and won’t look back.

I will not buy another BMW.

As The Vapors sang:

I’m turning Japanese
I think I’m turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I’m turning Japanese
I really think so
I’m turning Japanese
I think I’m turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I’m turning Japanese
I really think so

You worded that quite eloquently. :-)

You bought the car in Willowdale? That’s where I live (or used to)! I hope you got a heck of a deal for it.

Here’s where you can hear the actual music from The Vapors. http://blip.fm/~2vclp

Yeah, my folks had some dealings with Willowdale Subaru before and so we got a pretty good deal on the trade in and the price on the Forester.

I wanted a pickup to run a trip to the dump, pickup wood at Home Depot, etc. I found an old 86 S-10 at a garage sale for $700.00. About the same time my son cracked the head on my comuter Grand Am. I started driving the S-10. Now three years later I am still driving the S-10 and the my bigest expense has been a new battery. I keep thinking it will die. The best two things, I can unlock it with a penny and it is so ugly no one will be stealing it or anything in it.

      You said it!

Would that be an American or Canadian penny?

I just gotta say I love my Mini Cooper.. :-D
Have never had an issue with it.

Too bad about the Beamer…I’ve heard those Subarus are really really nice…and in snow, too (you’ll need it up there, eh?!)

At first I thought I’d just gotten a car built on a Superbowl Sunday, but then I realized that Germans probably don’t care about American football. Then I heard of lots of other people with the same kind of complaints about their BMW’s.

I had every intention of keeping this car and driving it until it could literally drive no more. I’ve been a responsible car owner and done regular oil changes, fixed scratches and dents…all that jazz.

But The Girl can’t drive stick. And it had become really inconvenient for only one of us to be able to handle the car. And car prices, not to mention interest rates, are pretty good now.

The opportunity was to good to resist.
