No In-Vivo studies that I'm aware of. Calcium Hydroxide generally works as a better disinfectant than Ledermix (eg. This study.) Calcium Hydroxide combined with Ledermix is not as effective as Calcium Hydroxide alone (this study).

Search here for "Calcium Hydroxide Ledermix" for more studies on this topic.

And yes, I do routinely use Calcium Hydroxide in infected cases.

Hello, My name is Spyro Veizi and I am a General Dental Practicioner.I would like to ask Periapex as a specialist endodontist the following :
-Is the use of a 50-50 mixture of Ledermix and Calcium Hydroxide paste a standard practice of endodontics or evidence based dentistry?Any date of in-vivo studies would be apreciated.
I do not know if you use this medicaments but I would really apreciate your help in this matter.

Hey there! My name is Dr. Moore and I specialize in General Dentistry. I have completed and found these CMEs to be very useful so I thought I’d share them with everyone.

Here’s a description of what they’re about: “Joslin Diabetes Center, through the Professional Education Department, produces continuing medical education (CME) for healthcare providers involved in all aspects of diabetes care. In line with this vision, Joslin has developed a comprehensive, longitudinal platform for Performance Improvement CME (PI CME). PI CME is becoming the accepted standard for certified medical education in the U.S., and Joslin's PI CME platform uses a custom, turn-key approach to help you assess your practice and implement practice changes. The PI CME platform is delivered via the Joslin Professional Education Consortium (JPEC), a web resource extending traditional modes of learning with online virtual patient visits, point-of-care tools and resources, and peer-to-peer interactivity.”

In order to participate in the CMEs you’ll have to register on their website: www.jpec.joslin.org

If you could post this on your blog, that would be great!

Dear Periapex,

I just happend to read your blog as i was searching the web for vertical root fractures. I am a 28 year old female and have been suffering for over 4 months now due to 2 fractured molars (18 and 31). Both teeth have fractures on the top and have had root canals in April 09( number 31 even had retreatment). But nothing seems to take the pain away from those two teeth. My dentist made me pay for crowns already which he wants to place although both teeth hurt to the extent that i cant chew on them. he now thinks (after 3 months of constant pain!!) that they might have a root fracture but told me nobody cant diagnose this unless extracted. he also does implants and now advises me to get both teeth extracted and put inplants in. I am not sure what to do... extract ?How can you diagnose a fracture than goes below the gumline?Shouldt a root canal treated tooth be painfree after 3 month? On the X ray, there is no sign of infection or any abnormalities i was told. The root canals were done by an Endo in Tampa, FL.

I would really be happy if you could respond. I am in pain now for 4 months straight and can chew on neither side of my mouth. I just want my life back and be painfree.
Thank you, birgit
